“Here you will see a few examples of my recent project with a community in the Hunza Valley, on the old silk route in northern Pakistan. Surrounded by snowy peaks and glaciers in the Karakorum mountains, the area is famous for weaving and embroidery.

Modern aesthetics and age-old craftsmanship are combined in this rewarding artistic experiment: a meeting of cultures and ideas that honor traditional skills with a fresh approach.

The project is focused on the well-being and development of the local community. Under the tutelage of Turkmen master weavers, women are reviving long-lost textile skills perfected by their ancestors. They receive fair wages that contribute to their family income, and child labor is prohibited.

The works in this series have a sense of mystery: they look both ancient and modern, and the texture is delicate, yet earthy: the perfect combination for my aesthetic.”
